Transport: Departure is a docufiction theatre performance that, through an intimate narrative and a broader socio-environmental context, exposes the consequences of excessive human interference with nature. In the pursuit of economic growth, we have occupied riverbeds and reshaped landscapes, yet nature persistently reminds us that it operates by its own rules – increasingly through storms, floods, and landslides. By weaving together the personal and the collective, the documentary and the fictional, the intimate and the social, the performance offers a powerful response to contemporary reality and emphasizes that space is a holistic natural system, whose imbalance carries consequences we cannot ignore.
The performance raises questions of resource depletion and the disrupted balance of ecosystems, manifested ever more clearly in floods, droughts, heatwaves, and wildfires that affect millions of people worldwide. The statistics are stark: since 1980, the number of floods in Europe has increased by 50%, and their intensity continues to rise due to climate change.
As docufiction, Transport: Departure intertwines the real-life experience of the Fužir family from Prevalje, who lost their home in the floods, with a fictional scenic layer. A realistic audio recording of the family’s testimony confronts the audience with the direct experience of loss and the fragility of human existence, while the fictional dimension creates space for broader reflection.
Transport: Departure is thus not merely an aesthetic act but a metaphor for the urgency of change. It calls for a departure from destructive practices toward the co-creation of sustainable alternatives and invites introspection: how do our understanding of space, consumer habits, and everyday choices shape the world around us?

… the performance also brings back the question of strategies of (socially engaged) theatre and its effects related to questions about the purpose and power of theatre. As it turns out, Transport: Departure has a clear stance …
